I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just wake up and realize I haven’t prayed in days. Not because I don’t want to, but because… life just gets noisy.
I'd spend hours scrolling through my phone more than I’m talking to God, and even when I try to pray, it feels awkward — like He’s far away and sometimes I'm just not sure what to say anymore.
Next thing I know I'm scrolling through TikTok and seeing all these Christians posting how on fire they are for God and looking so satisfied and peaceful and I start thinking "why can't I live like that? No dry seasons, no confusion always on fire for God".
I used to feel really guilty about it. I’d think, “God probably doesn’t want to hear from me anymore. I've messed up too much.”
But here’s something I’ve learned: You can never drift too far for God to bring you back.
The truth is, even the strongest Christians go through dry seasons.
There are times when you feel on fire for God, and then times when everything feels empty and distant.
It doesn’t mean you have failed. It just means you’re human.
Sometimes when we feel far, we avoid God completely because we’re ashamed. But the truth is, He’s not waiting to scold you; He’s waiting to hold you.
You don’t have to come back with a perfect prayer or a long worship playlist. Just talk.
Something as simple as this:
“God, I know I’ve been distant. I miss you. Help me find my way back.”
That’s a prayer. He always answers.
And don’t think you can “fix” everything in one day. I used to feel that way. I felt that if I played enough worship songs and prayed a really long prayer, I could make up for all the days that I missed and then the next day I could just take a "break" but it always ended the same way: that "one day break" would turn into days, and days would turn into weeks and I'd be right back where I started.
It's okay to start small. You might think it's just a simple prayer but that simple prayer is actually a lot. Taking time out of your day to actually spend time with God and just be in his presence is a lot because that means you've made him a priority in your life and that's a lot of effort especially for someone with a busy schedule.
So you can just start with a simple routine — one or two worship songs, one short Bible verse, one honest prayer.
Sometimes I just open my Bible app and read the verse of the day. Other times, I listen to a gospel song while doing chores.
The key is consistency, not perfection.
God meets you right where you are, even in your little steps.
You might feel far from Him, but He never leaves you.
Isaiah 49:15 says, “I will not forget you.”
Even when you stopped praying, He was still protecting you. Even when you lost focus, He still cared.
The distance you feel doesn’t change His love for you — it just means it’s time to reconnect.
There was a time when I didn’t pray for almost two weeks. I just didn’t “feel” it. I felt guilty every time I remembered.
But one night, I was thinking random thoughts and basically doing nothing, and I suddenly thought, "wait a minute, I have time now, I'm not busy, I'm not doing anything, I haven't prayed today, so why am I not praying?" so I stood up and started praying and in that moment I just knew what to say.
Now this doesn't mean that I just became on fire for God again and stayed that way. The next day I tried praying like that but I wasn't really sure what to say so I just talked to God about anything that came to mind, even little things like my day and how I've been feeling lately. That’s when I realized God doesn’t need perfection — he just wants your presence
If you’re feeling far from God right now, don’t panic. He’s not angry or disappointed — he's patient.
Just start somewhere, and he'll meet you there.
Because no matter how far you feel, He's always there. Always.
When was the last time you talked to God honestly — not perfectly, but just honestly?
Maybe today is the day to start again.
What do you usually do when you feel distant from God? What helps you get closer to him again? I'd love to hear your advice in the comments.
